I have been to beautiful Amsterdam a couple of times and each time was fascinated by the city and its architecture; bicycles everywhere, and row upon row of various structures, all similar, yet all unique.
While living in Celebration Joanna and I met a lovely couple from there and became friends. They had purchased one of my first coffee paintings and while sharing one of our meals together (and of course some great coffee) they mentioned how much they would enjoy having a painting of their native city. So, on one of their trips back home they shipped me some Douwe Egberts coffee so I could work in a medium from the country of origin. I had taken a number of photos during my trips, and they sent me some of the ones they had and I used those as reference to create this painting.
Douwe Egberts' long and rich history started over 260 years ago in a small village in Friesland. Egbert Douwes and his wife, Akke Thysses, founded their coffee-roasting business in 1753. Today, Douwe Egberts is one of the top three largest coffee roasters in the world.
